This clip offers a brief explaination of why Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children were removed from their homes. It also shares some of the impacts and experiences those children taken experienced. There are also short comments regarding thoughts of Kevin Rudd's apology to the Stolen Generation. The clip ends with the a small snipit of the Apology speech by Kevin Rudd.
While this is only a snipit of the Apology speech, it offers an insight into the feelings and experiences of those people who lived through the Stolen Generation.
In the classroom this clip, among the hundreds more found on YouTube, to present the topic of the Stolen Generation to the class. It could also be used to offer students more personalised explainations from the people who expeirenced the trauma of the Stolen Generation.
As a whole, YouTube offers an interesting creative way to present course introductions, peoples opinions, as well as offering a short tour of a destination for students. There are so many possibilities to the use of YouTube in the classroom, would love to hear your suggestions.

Hi Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI really like you blog and have found it interesting and engaging - mission accomplished, well done. I too agree with your summary uses of YouTube in the classroom, according to the last paragraph above. The more you brainstorm about the possibilities the greater the opportunities that these technologies present for us to be effective teachers for the future.
Kindest regards
Peter Spencer
Youtube brings endless possibilities to the classroom, for instance a teacher trying to get the children to learn the ABC's or counting to 10 and all other verbal instructions have failed this brings a new exciting way to engage the chidlren in learnign these topics.
ReplyDeleteYou just have to type in the right thing and your choices are endless, monitoring for the unrelated and PG rated clips.
